Drug addiction and Alcoholism

Drug addiction and Alcoholism are a mental, physical, emotion, social and Spiritual affliction and need to be treated as such. On the mental level there is a continuous habit of using drugs or alcohol where a developed pattern of substance abuse is established. Once an individual have created this pattern it take quite some time change and create a positive way of living.

Then there is the physical part of the addiction where the drugs themselves cause chemical dependence. It is the laws of nature when you put acid to metal it burns a hole, well too many drops of heroin in the human body causes physical addiction. Heroin, alcohol and tranquilizers have the most severe physical consequences but cocaine and meth also cause a physical condition that helps reinforce and addiction to them.

Then there is the emotional aspect of the addiction wherein the high from using drugs takes the sharp edges off of reality, of course we know that this is only borrowed escape because eventually you must pay back every bit of pleasure with pain. Nevertheless, for a short time drugs and alcohol can suppress emotions such as fear, anger, loneliness, boredom and so-on. But when the addict try's to stop taking drugs those emotions go wild and are usually overwhelming and the addict is not adjusted to coping without being high on drugs and therefore runs to their drug of choice as a way to deal with the situation.

The social aspect of addiction ties right into the emotional because these painful emotions are generally linked to social anxiety or fear. Social anxiety is a major reason that many people take drugs today. At first they seem to enhance sociability but eventually the reverse happens it further enhances ones social fears.

Probably the most overlooked reinforcing factor attributed to addiction is the spiritual aspect. We are Christians in recovery so we know that there is a very real spiritual battle happening right now. However many people go about their day unaware of this fact.
